Q-tip: How to Keep Your Eyebrows in Check Between Waxings

If there is one thing that drives me nuts (well there are a lot of things) it's eyebrows that look like an animal sitting on someone's forehead.  A perfectly coiffed eyebrow can really make the difference between looking good vs. looking like you just don't care.  I must say that most offenders are old men, but I've seen a couple of women out there sporting caterpillars as well.

Below are four easy steps to keep your brows looking beautiful, in between or in lieu of, your professional appointments.

Step 1:  Using a clean mascara brush or eyebrow brush comb your eyebrows straight up.  You can also wet the brush or use a tiny bit of gel to keep them in place.

Step 2:  Locate any hairs sticking above the natural shape of the brow.

Step 3:  Clip those bad boys with a pair of eyebrow or manicure scissors.

Step 4:  Brush the brows downward and clip any hairs falling below the natural shape of the brow.

Always remember to be careful when using sharp objects around your eye area and remember that less is more.  You can easily clip your eyebrows back a bit more, but if you get all Greta Garbo on them it's going to take a long time for them to grow back.

Q-tip: How to Get Better Hold with Your Eyelash Curler

A friend told me this years ago:  If you want to get extra hold out of your eyelash curler then use your blow dryer to heat it for about 2 seconds.  Remember to test it before slapping it on your lashes or you could burn yourself (ouch!).

Q-Tip: Free Samples of Mineral Makeup

I love me some freebies and Signature Minerals serves them up, as well as a great product. Unlike some companies that put you into a "club" program and call it free, Signature Minerals, is the real deal.

If you're not sure of the color you should choose then checkout their guide for picking the correct color, which can be fond here.  Select a couple shades of base that you think will match and give it a try.  If the shades don't work, no worries, you can receive another sample pack for free, as long as the shades are different from the first one.

I recently decided to try a different line of mineral makeup, because every woman should experience a bit of variety in her life.  I found my perfect match and also sampled an amazing blush, Pink Jazz, and a stunning eyeshadow, Aurora.  Their products contain "no toxins and no irritants whatsoever- its actually nice to your skin!"

If you're new to mineral makeup then check out my article on why you're going to fall in love with it.

DIY: Beating Heat Rash or Razor Burn

If you've ever experienced heat rash or a razor burn you know how uncomfortable it can be. Razor burn comes from applying too much pressure during shaving, dull blades, dry shaving (check this article for an awesome shaving cream) or shaving in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Heat rash; also known as prickly heat, prickly heat rash, miliaria, or red miliaria; is the result of clogged pores. Pores become clogged with sweat, dead skin, and bacteria. Once this has happened, sweat has no choice but to seep into, rather than onto, the skin. This usually happens at places on the body where skin meets skin such as armpits, the groin, between thighs, and under breasts. It can, however, develop on the back, face, abdomen, neck, chest, and at the hairline.

Whatever you want to call it and however you got it doesn't really matter when it comes right down to it. All you know is that it burns and it you want to get rid of it. Of course with heat rash you want to get out of the sun and into a cool bath as soon as possible.

This DIY Heat Rash/Razor Burn buster will help to soothe your aching skin.

Ingredients:

4 oz. distilled water (you can buy it in most grocery stores)
8 drops of lavender essential oil (easily purchased at health food stores)

Directions:

Combine the ingredients and place into a spray bottle (a glass bottle is best, but plastic will do in a pinch) and spray lavishly over the area to be treated. You can also use the leftover to freshen your bed linens.

Q-Tip: Silky Cleanser as a Shaving Cream

Silky Cleanser can also be used as a shaving cream. It has excellent slip and leaves the skin soft and hydrated after shaving. Warning: once your man tries this product for shaving you’ll never be able to get him to stop using it.

Q-Tip: Sampling Program from Raya Labs

Raya Labs has an excellent sampling program. If you’re a product whore like me than this is an excellent opportunity to try out a TON of products for free.

Here’s the catch – you need to be a licensed Esthetician in order to participate in the sampling program. Find out more here: http://www.rayalab.com/sample_program.html
