I'm currently visiting London and I went by this Body Shop store in Covent Garden yesterday. I haven't been in a Body Shop store in years. I used to go there all the time when I was a teenager, and I loved making my own signature perfume from their selection of scents blended with a base oil. That does not exist any longer and honestly I have no idea when they stopped doing that.
The Body Shop was started by Anita Roddick, after visiting a company by the same name, in Berkeley California, which is in the Bay Area, and is where I am currently located. I saw this shop yesterday and thought about how small the world really can be when you start to pay attention to everything around you.
I always loved the social activism that the Body Shop promoted. However, I don't like the fact that they bill themselves as "natural", but their products are anything but. Yes, they will contain some natural elements, but they can contain some nasty preservatives and chemicals as well. I did a quick scan of some labels and was a bit disappointed. I've been searching the London beauty scene on this trip, trying to find some places where I can buy good products, with good ingredients. Unfortunately, this was not the place.
My search will continue and it has inspired me to write an article about what to look for on the label when I return home.
