This recipe comes from my school days. A group of us worked on different DIY masks to soothe acneic skin and this one was the winner.

2 tbsp of powdered oatmeal
1 tbsp of powdered green tea
2 tsp. of milk
1 tsp. of honey

Put all ingredients in a food processor (or you can blend by hand, but the honey should be heated to make it more fluid) and apply to the skin for 10 minutes.

Green tea is an anti-oxidant, oatmeal with soothe the skin, milk contains lactic acid and honey is a natural humectant.

Enjoy! The Queen of Creamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03378428679713461016noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3332392888223250504.post-18068150321369965582015-03-25T10:39:00.000-07:002016-09-29T21:03:59.288-07:00It's all about the money, money, money...

So as some of you know I've been out of work for awhile now.

We moved back to the U.S. in August of last year and unfortunately our household didn't make it here until just before the holidays. I didn't think that it would take 5 months for our stuff to arrive and I had only packed comfy clothing and one nice dress in my suitcase (not exactly work ware). During those five months I tried to think of what I could do to make a little bit of money, without having to spend any money.

Along came clinical testing, my new best friend. Basically I get paid to test cosmetics, from skin cream to eyebrow gel and everything in between. I usually make about $40 dollars a product, but sometimes up to $200 for longer studies. I am now known as test subject number 17 at a local San Francisco company, Biometrix, and I've probably made about $500 since October (not huge money, but money is money). Some studies pay upwards of $500, just not the ones that are local to me :-(

I did a little bit of research and if you'd like to test cosmetics and get paid to do it (plus you get to use their products for free for 4 weeks) there might be a clinical trial in your area. You can Google clinical studies + your city to find them and here are a couple to get you started.

Clinical Studies in Irving, TX

Clinical Studies in Princeton, NJ & Essex, U.K.: I believe this company, Princeton, may also mail samples for trials to other locations as well.

Clinical Studies in Bozeman, MT

Clinical Studies in Fairfield, NJ: Damn, I wish I lived in NJ...seems to be a popular place for clinical studies.

While this is not an extensive list it only took me about 10 minutes to find them so you should be able to see if there are any by you in no time.

I've also been participating in focus groups and other marketing studies. These are easily found on Craigslist and are usually under the "Gigs" section. I just made $175 last night for 5 hours of my time, but many only take about an hour or so.

Another bonus to focus groups are some of the people you meet. Most are normal, but there are some interesting folks to say the least...last night I had the pleasure of meeting the reincarnation of Baby Jane.

Good luck in your quest for extra money. For now I'll keep on keeping on and eventually I will find my dream job and then use the money from that job to start my own skin care line (a girl can dream can't she).

"Think Dirty® empowers and educates the consumer on the cosmetics industry by allowing them to make an informed decision on what products to purchase."

This Queen couldn't have said it better. Too many cosmetic products contain toxic chemicals and this app helps you to figure out which ones do. My blog lists all the ingredients in the products I test and tells you which ones are filler, do nothing, do something and do something really dangerous. This app allows you to check it out on the spot. What could be better!
They currently only have an iPhone version, which you can download from here:

The Claim: Instantly Ageless™ is a powerful anti-wrinkle microcream that works quickly and effectively to diminish the visible signs of aging. The revolutionary ingredient is argireline: a peptide that works like botox—without the needles. Instantly Ageless™ revives the skin and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and pores for a flawless finish.

The Review: I was gifted a sample of Instantly Ageless™and gave it a try after a night of insomnia. The manufacturer claims that this is a powerful anti-wrinkle cream, but I found it to really only be effective on bags under the eyes. My fine lines and wrinkles were still there, but the bags were gone and this gave me a much better appearance.

A little bit goes a looooonnnnggg way so you can get about 5 applications for the eyes per tube (if you're willing to cut the tube open). The smell is quite pleasant and it was very easy to use. My only caution would be to make sure you don't use too much or it will leave a white flakey residue.

Here is a video of me applying the product
and the end results

I've given this product a "Thumbs in Pocket" rating, because it's excellent at getting rid of bags and saggy skin under the eyes (temporarily), but it doesn't really work that well on wrinkles. I tried it in the following areas.

Forehead - (before and after photos below) Some improvement in my wrinkles, but I went a big overboard and looked like I had dried glue on my forehead. I blotted it with a damp cloth to get rid of the flakey look.

Everything is coming up pumpkin spice!

I know I can't resist the smell, can you? Did you know that the smell of pumpkin pie stimulates arousal in men? Well I'm not here to share my recipe for homemade pumpkin pie (although it is a killer recipe), but instead I am here to share my recipe for a pumpkin spice facial scrub that will leave your skin silky smooth and smelling delish.

Pumpkin contains beta-carotene (antioxidant/controls pigmentation), Vitamins A, C (antioxidants) & E (helps to maintain barrier function), Alpha-carotene (antioxidant), zinc (helps to maintain hormone levels), and lutein (aids in hydration and elasticity).

What You'll Need:

1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil (liquified) or jojoba oil
1 tbsp. pumpkin puree (organic or homemade-puree some of your leftover jack-o-lantern pulp)
1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spices

Mix the dry ingredients together and then add the oil and pumpkin puree. Mix the ingredients completely and apply a generous helping of the scrub to each area of your face, neck and decollete. Working each area one at a time rub in a circular motion for a minute or so. Rinse with warm water and follow with your favorite moisturizer if necessary.
The lagoon is man-made and is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant and is renewed every two days. Superheated water is vented from the ground near a lava flow and used to run turbines that generate electricity. After going through the turbines, the steam and hot water passes through a heat exchanger
to provide heat for a municipal water heating system. Then the water is
fed into the lagoon for recreational and medicinal users to bathe in.

Although it doesn't sound very lovely soaking in the run off from the local power plant, it is in fact amazing. The water smells a bit funky, but thats from the natural sulphur. Sulphur might be a bit stinky, but it's amazing for your skin, especially acnaeic skin.

Throughout the Blue Lagoon there are wooden boxes filled with natural silica white mud. As you look around at everyone with their white masks its hard not to laugh out loud. The funny thing is that they will have the last laugh as this mud is AMAZING!

Its so amazing that yours truly broke the rules and did take some home. A carefully hidden lunch baggie and quick hands were all I needed. Now I can apply this smelly mud in the privacy of my own home. After using it my breakout was banished and my skin is extremely smooth. I think my skin tone is more even as well, but that might just be my mind playing tricks.

If you're thinking of going to Iceland then you should definitely check out the Blue Lagoon. Even if you're not going you can purchase the mud mask from the Blue Lagoon web store. The bottled mud mask isn't nearly as smelly as the stuff from the box, but it is a bit pricey (65 euros).

The one major disappointment with the bottled mask is that it contains a LOT of parabens. Parabens are preservatives and they have been found in breast cancer tumors. There are natural preservatives that can be used, but parabens are cheap and sorry, but for 65 euros then can more than afford to use something better. they could also sell it in a dry form, which would inhibit the growth of anything funky and then it could be mixed with water on demand to create a mask.

Hmmm...maybe I should buy this stuff in bulk and add it to my collection of skincare products...
Since I use no pesticides or fertilizers in my garden I know that it's safe. Lavender is great for the garden, it invites bees and keeps away invasive pests such as aphids. If you can grow your own lavender you definitely should.

Lavender is harvested just as the buds are beginning to open. Unfortunately this year I was away for a month, and London had very hot and dry weather. My lavender was a bit overdue by the time I got home, but there was still plenty that I could use.

The first step is to gather the flower stems into bunches and cut them.

Next, strip off the leaves and pull out any bad stems.

Line up the flower heads and tie into bunches. You should tie directly under the flower heads as well as several inches down the stems.

Dip the tied flowers into slightly soapy, cold, water, I use a non-toxic Ecover. Then rinse them under water and blot dry with paper toweling.

In about a month the flowers will be dry enough to start using. There are many uses for lavender and many recipes out on the web. I use them in my lavender and rose body scrub, I grind them into salt and sprinkle over boiled potatoes and simmer them in milk for a bed time treat. The Queen of Creamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03378428679713461016noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3332392888223250504.post-36005234549140312222013-05-22T05:57:00.001-07:002016-09-29T21:14:34.695-07:00Review: 18Actives Dynamic Eye Pack - Thumbs in PocketThe Claim: Eye Essence is a potent therapy for under eye treatment. Dark circles, puffiness, dry skin, and fine lines can be addressed with this amazing formulation. Faux Filler works by increasing the number of adipocytes (fat cells) in the area being treated, resulting in increased volume and density of the underlying skin structure.

The Review: The first thing I noticed was the web site for these products did not contain the full ingredient list (that would be red flag number one). I did go to their distributors site, http://www.naturalskinshop.com/, and I was able to find the ingredients there.

The second red flag was their claim that the Faux Filler “works by increasing the number of adipocytes (fat cells) in the area being treated”. Um, sorry, but that would be impossible, without actually injecting fat under the skin. There is no miracle product that can do this, if there was there wouldn’t be a flat chested woman left in the world! Interestingly enough there are topical creams for the chest that claim to do the same thing, but those claims have never been proven in an independent study.

Below are before and after pictures of my co-worker, as she was a great test subject for the “lightening” claim put forth by the manufacturer and pictures of myself before and after using the Faux Filler.

As you can see my eyes don’t look any fatter and my co-workers dark circles haven’t faded one shade. My co-worker did state, however, that the product left her eye area moisturized and she noticed that it felt dryer when she stopped using the product. I also noticed a tingling sensation when I applied the faux filler and you’ll notice in my before and after photos that the skin around my eyes appears less shiny, which is due to the silicone in the product. Overall I noticed a slight improvement, but not enough for what this product costs.

My overall advice when it comes to these two products would be this…don’t waste your money. For dark circles you can rub a little bit of organic, virgin, coconut oil under your eyes. This isn’t a miracle solution that’s going to make you look 25 again, but it will definitely moisturize the under-eye skin. It also contains vitamin K, which along with the massaging motion, will help to decrease dark circles. In regards to the Faux Filler, like any other product that contains silicone it will give a smooth and satin feel the area where it’s applied, but there are cheaper versions, Sephora Perfecting Eye Primer, $14, comes to mind. I am also a bit put off by the amount of preservatives used in these products.

The holidays are here and shopping, traveling and spending time with loved ones is what's on most people's minds. My loved ones, my brother in particular, has been on my mind. He has stage III malignant melanoma and we're all trying our best to help him deal with his feelings and get as healthy as he can.

Today's blog post is dedicated to my brother.
I've learned more about skin cancer in the last month than I ever learned in school. An esthetician is taught to refer a client to a dermatologist if something looks like it might be cancerous and you can't refer someone without knowing the signs. The best prevention for skin cancer is being aware of how to protect your skin. The earlier skin cancer is caught, the better off you are, as it is a serious killer if kept unchecked.

These tips are straight from the CDC and they deal with how to protect your skin from the sun:

The CDC recommends easy options for protection from UV radiation:

Seek shade, especially during midday hours.

Wear clothing to protect exposed skin.

Wear a hat with a wide brim to shade the face, head, ears, and neck.

Wear sunglasses that wrap around and block as close to 100% of both UVA and UVB rays as possible.

Use sunscreen with sun protective factor (SPF) 15 or higher, and both UVA and UVB protection.

Avoid indoor tanning.

Those are great tips for sure, but be aware that not all skin cancer comes from UV radiation. My brother's didn't, his is due to a welding burn that happened over 18 years ago. A tiny spark got inside of his boot, this tiny burn took a long time to heal and when it did it left behind a small mark. Now fast forward about 17.5 years and my brother notices that this tiny dot is now a bit bigger in size, but not much and it's not discolored or anything so he just attributes it to age, like a really light liver spot or the original mark stretching a bit. He has really bad eye site and doesn't often look at his ankle so he isn't really sure how long it has looked like that. A couple of months later and he feels a small bump. That sets off alarms and he goes into the doctor. Fast forward another couple of months and all the testing has led to the diagnosis of stage III malignant melanoma.

Skin cancer can be caused by over exposure to UV rays, but it can also be caused by other things such as these:

Previous skin cancer

Previous radiotherapy treatment

Lowered immunity

Exposure to chemicals

Genetic conditions

Bad burns (there are arguments against this, but I tend to believe it)

Skin grafts (there are arguments against this, but I tend to believe it)

According to the National Cancer Institute Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Each year, more than 68,000 Americans are diagnosed with melanoma, and another 48,000 are diagnosed with an early form of the disease
that involves only the top layer of skin.

When it comes to looking out for skin cancer check your feet, between your toes and under your nails as well as your ears (not places we often look). In men, it’s often found on the skin on the head, on the neck, or between the shoulders and the hips. In women, it’s often found on the skin on the lower legs or between the shoulders and the hips. We seem to have this idea that cancer is going to look like some big, scary mole, but it doesn't start out that way.

I won't post any scary pictures, you can Google them for yourself. This web site has a slideshow of what cancer can look like that will scare the bejesus out of you, but if you think something might be off when it comes to your skin you might want to take a look at it. I will, however, describe some of the things that would make you want to visit your doctor.

The single most important feature that may signal the presence of a skin cancer is a new, changing, enlarging skin growth that persists. Look for changes in color, size, thickness and surface texture of a mole or other suspicious skin lesions. Sores that won't heal may also indicate cancerous or precancerous conditions of the skin that need attention. Examine your skin once a month for any suspicious changes. Not all skin cancers are symptomatic, many are painless. Early treatment is critical. (UCSF School of Medicine) In a nutshell if anything seems off or different, and not in a good way, just talk to your doctor!

If you're wondering what happens when you are diagnosed with skin cancer...well it all depends. The severity of the cancer that you have will be described in stages. Understanding staging is an enormous task in and of itself, because they are many aspects to determining your stage.

The TNM staging system is done first:

The T indicates the size of the tumor

The N shows whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes

The M shows whether the cancer has spread to another part of the body (metastasis)

Once the TNM categories (types) have all been decided, the information is put together to give a number stage of 0 to 4:

Stage 0 - the cancer is only in the top layer of skin (the epidermis)

Stage 1 - the cancer is 2cm or less across and has not spread

Stage 2 - the cancer is more than 2cm across and has not spread

Stage 3 - the cancer has spread to the tissues under the skin and possibly to nearby lymph node

Stage 4 - the cancer has spread to another part of the body

In a nutshell, the higher the number, the worse off you are.

Cancer is different for everyone so no matter what stage you're in only you can decide how you want to handle it. There are so many different opinions, even for treatments that have been around a very long time. Once you start discussing anything holistic you will find that some doctors say that you should try anything that you feel will help as long as you follow the standard procedures and others will tell you that anything holistic is a waste of time.. Sometimes the information overload will be overwhelming. Take a deep breathe, try to relax and carry on.

Some of the holistic treatments that I, and others, feel merit some research are the following:

Cut out sugar. Cancer loves sugar and every doctor will tell you this.

Detox your body immediately. Eliminate all dairy, sugar and processed foods. Become a vegetarian, eat organic, eat foods that naturally detox the body. Leafy green vegetables, flax seed, and green tea are just some of them.

Coffee isn't just for drinking when you're battling cancer. Do coffee enemas, they are excellent for detoxing the liver.

Exercise your body and your mind. You want to be in top physical condition when you start your battle with cancer and you also need to be mentally prepared. Take time out to read and view things for pleasure. Don't obsess about your prognosis, stress is definitely a bad thing.

Boost your immune system. Most of the treatments for later stage skin cancer is going to wreak havoc on your immune system, so get it as healthy as you can. A raw food diet, using a blender to make smoothies or just eating them raw is best as cooking destroys the immune building properties that you need. There are too many foods that naturally build your immune system to list, but carrots, cabbage, green asparagus, broccoli, red beets (i.e. beetroot), beet tops, cauliflower and related vegetables are amongst them. Peppers also have cancer fighting substances and the spice turmeric can be added as well.

Look into vitamin C IV drips. I've read so many articles from people studying and treating cancer with vitamin C that it can't be ignored. It's not cheap, it's more effective if it's taken intravenously and insurance is not going to cover it. This is something that you'll have to pay for on your own. Read about it and decide if it is for you.

If you live in a state where medical marijuana is legal look into hemp oil, which contains cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are a group of 21-carbon–containing terpenophenolic compounds produced uniquely by Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica species (in laymen's terms...pot). Cannabinoids may cause antitumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis. (this is from the National Cancer Institute). Once again some will say that it works and others will say that it doesn't. It's your call to decide what you want to do.

So now you know a little bit more about skin cancer (hopefully). Feel free to pass this information on and to add to it if you'd like.

If you have a personal story with cancer and want to share, go for it. I created a Facebook page to share my brother's experience with others and I also created a web site to raise funds for his treatments. Don't be ashamed to ask for help. People out there empathize with you and you are not alone.

I've been working on getting my stuff into the marketplace for years (a lot of the work was just day dreaming). Although the sales weren't huge, I won't be retiring anytime soon, I did sell 7 scrubs, which is great for a small crowd at a school and I handed out at least 20 cards. I also met some great people and had some laughs.

Some of the things I've learned:

The Lavender & Rose scrub is by far the best seller.

Little girls love Strawberries & Cream.

People like interesting stuff in their scrubs (i.e. flowers) and I need to think of something to add to my scrubs to make them "prettier".

Even if you don't make a sale you always get something out of putting yourself out there.

Another bonus was that this morning one of my co-workers stopped by my office to buy a scrub
since she wasn't able to make it to the sale yesterday. Completely
unexpected and a nice surprise. I also received an email with the picture below that a girl of about 8 had taken of my display. I think it's a pretty great photo!
I have several goals this winter when it comes to looking and feeling better about myself. One of my goals is to do an overhaul on my body as well as my skin. The holiday season is coming and my backside is not getting any smaller on it's own. This girl likes her sweets, but they don't like me back.

My skin also needs some serious help. I was bad this summer and laid in the sun a LOT. Even though I know how horrible it is for the skin I just can't help myself. I love nothing more than to lay out by the water on a hot summer day (I swear I'm half lizard). Unfortuately my love of the sun has caused my leopard spots to reappear and my eyes are looking a bit tired.

Of course now that the London gloom is back in full effect and my tan is a thing of the past the dark circles under my eyes are looking darker than ever as well.

What's a girl to do....well for one I'll be using the products in the 18 Actives Dynamic Eye Pack and the Alpha Light Essentials Kit. The 18Actives pack is designed to diminish dark cirles, strengthen the skin and decrease fine lines and the Alpha Light Essentials kit renews and rejuvenates your uneven skin pigmentation with an advanced AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) Exfoliator.

Lets see if it can plump up the caverns under my eyes, clear up my leopard spots and turn back time! The Queen of Creamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03378428679713461016noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3332392888223250504.post-88849509864175890752012-08-29T01:48:00.001-07:002016-09-29T21:19:31.235-07:00Steps to Effectively Control Rosacea

Rosacea (pronounced roh-ZAY-sha) is a common but poorly understood disorder of the facial skin that is estimated to affect well over 14 million Americans. Rosacea causes redness and pimples on the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. The redness may come and go. People sometimes call rosacea "adult acne" because it can cause outbreaks that look like acne. It can also cause burning and soreness in the eyes and eyelids. While the cause of rosacea is unknown and there is no cure, there are treatments that can control the signs and symptoms of this disorder. Only a doctor can diagnose rosacea, but an esthetician can help you to control it.

Steps to effectively control rosacea:

Improve Desquamation (shedding of the outer layers of the skin): This can be done through gentle exfoliating treatments that will remove surface build-up without causing irritation and increasing cell turnover.

Control inflammation and redness: The daily care regimen should be customized to include anti-inflammatory ingredients that will combat redness and discomfort. Topical ingredients that are effective in reducing the appearance of redness are often anti-inflammatory agents that have an effect on microcapillary function. Many work by interrupting the inflammatory process.

Control Excessive Dryness: Products must contain humectant ingredients to draw moisture to the epidermis and occlusive ingredients to hold it in.

Decrease Possible Bacterial Factors: Utilizing products containing multifaceted ingredients, such as salicylic and azelaic acids, will help to control both bacteria and inflammation. It is important to avoid more aggressive antibacterial agents such as benzoyl peroxide, which may cause further inflammation.

Protect from UV exposure: Everyone should be using a broad-spectrum SPF of 15 or greater every day on any exposed skin. Studies suggest that the inflammation associated with chronic photo damage significantly contributes to roacea. If the skin is exposed to UV rays on a daily basis this will lead to an increase in the production of nitric oxide and other free radicals within the skin cells. An increased production of these offenders can lead to vasodilation and broken capillaries. You should always use products that offer protection from long an short wave UVA rays as well as UVB rays. Always allow sun protection to absorb 20 minutes before to exposure. Reapply after two hours of sun exposure and repeat every two hours as needed.

If there is one thing that drives me nuts (well there are a lot of things) it's eyebrows that look like an animal sitting on someone's forehead. A perfectly coiffed eyebrow can really make the difference between looking good vs. looking like you just don't care. I must say that most offenders are old men, but I've seen a couple of women out there sporting caterpillars as well.

Below are four easy steps to keep your brows looking beautiful, in between or in lieu of, your professional appointments.

Step 1: Using a clean mascara brush or eyebrow brush comb your eyebrows straight up. You can also wet the brush or use a tiny bit of gel to keep them in place.

Step 2: Locate any hairs sticking above the natural shape of the brow.

Step 3: Clip those bad boys with a pair of eyebrow or manicure scissors.

Step 4: Brush the brows downward and clip any hairs falling below the natural shape of the brow.

Always remember to be careful when using sharp objects around your eye area and remember that less is more. You can easily clip your eyebrows back a bit more, but if you get all Greta Garbo on them it's going to take a long time for them to grow back.

A friend told me this years ago: If you want to get extra hold out of your eyelash curler then use your blow dryer to heat it for about 2 seconds. Remember to test it before slapping it on your lashes or you could burn yourself (ouch!).
If you'd like to try some of their products Derma e will ship you a free sampler pack containing some of their best sellers for just the price of shipping ($4.95).

I took a class at Handcraft Bodycare yesterday and one of the things we made was a coconut body scrub...it was simple to make, smells divine and my skin is super soft and yummy smelling after using it. I must admit, it tastes good too.
Here's the recipe for you:

6 tablespoons of course brown sugar

3 tablespoons of fine white sugar

2 tablespoons of ground coconut

5 drops of coconut fragrance oil

1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil

Enough grape seed oil to cover the mixture and still leave about a 1/4 of an inch of oil on top. The amount of oil will vary depending on your taste. Some people like their scrubs very dry and others prefer more oil.

Mix all the dry ingredients in the pot you will store it in and then add the oil last. Enjoy!

It is also effective for aging and dehydrated skin. Bio‑Oil has won 78 skincare awards and has become the No.1 selling scar and stretch mark product in 11 countries since its global launch in 2002.

The Review: Photos speak for themselves and as you can see there is zero difference in my pigmentation/scar issues (age spots, burn and scar from a cut). Now I don’t claim to be a professional photographer and these photos were taken with a high MP mobile phone camera, but I can see with my own eyes that there is no difference at all.

The ingredients list does not contain one ingredient known to fade pigmentation. There are natural ingredients such as kojic acid (from mushrooms), which help to decrease pigmentation and it would have been nice to see this in Bio Oil. This product also contains mineral oil, which can cause breakouts in some persons. When I began using this product I covered my entire face with it (lets face it, I’m in my 40’s and I have pigmentation spots all over my face, not just over my eye) and had a major breakout. After that I just concentrated on the spots over my eye.

This product contains many fragrance ingredients and many of the reviews I’ve read state how nice it smells. That’s great, but if I want to smell nice I wear perfume. Bio Oil does state that you should use the product for 90 days, but even after only 30 days you should see some improvement and I’ve seen none. Even with no intervention you will see natural improvement in a new scar after 90 days.

My conclusion would be to look for a product that really works on pigmentation and scars and pass on Bio Oil. Also, nothing cures stretch marks and although we all hope for the miracle product it doesn’t exist. If you’re pregnant your best option is to use a product that conditions your skin (grape seed oil or almond oil works just fine) and hope for the best. If you develop stretch marks - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stretch_marks and really want them gone there are laser treatments that actually work, but there is no miracle in a bottle that has been shown to work yet.
Bio Oil gets recommended by pharmacists, but does it really work?

Bio Oil claims that it is good for aging and damaged skin conditions. It can be applied to the face (I wouldn't recommend this since it contains Paraffinum Liquidum) and body, as it can remove acne scars, pimple marks, and even stretch marks.

I definitely have no shortage of age spots and although I don't have any acne scars, I'm somewhat clumsy and have acquired some pigmentation due to a burn as well as a cut on my forearm.

Since I find it hard to believe that one oil can do all of this I've decided to put it to the test. Below are my "before" shots, taken about 2 weeks ago. I will have a full review, as well as my "after" shots in another 2 weeks.

Although Bio Oil recommends using 2x daily for 3 months, I've decided I will publish my results after using 2x daily for one month. If there is no improvement after 30 days, it's highly unlikely there will be any improvement, other than the skins natural healing, after 90 days.

Enjoy!

The Claim: It was designed to protect babies bottoms, keeping them smooth, free from infection and sores, but it has become an anti-aging phenomenon.

Baby Bottom Butter, which is priced at just £2.54, has become the top selling skincare product for people of all ages, particularly women, at Waitrose.

The Review: If you like dipping your face into Crisco then you'll love the texture of this cream. Although I love the fact that the ingredients are all natural and the product contains no parabens I just can't get past the fact that it's suuuuuper greasy. For every day use I would say this product is a no go, but then again that is just my opinion. I tend to prefer heavier and greasier face lotions, but this one was just too much for even me.

I cannot give this product a negative review, because I found that it is an amazing foot cream, works well on rough and dry cuticles and did work quite well as a face cream after I had a medium depth chemical peel. My makeup slid off of my face when I tried to use this during the day, but at night it was fine, as long as I had my hair tied back. The smell is lovely and the price can't be beat.

Here is some general information on acne and how to control breakouts. Now I am not a doctor so my advice is not the end all, be all, but it gives you a good place to start. I also have a great DIY acne mask that you can try.

Control abnormal keratinization and pore blockage (exfoliate): The initial trigger in the production of acne papules is the increased adherence of keratinocytes to the follicle wall and increased sebum production, resulting in a plugged pore. Skin cells often do not shed enough on their own; creating a buildup of surface cells that traps oil and bacteria. Using gentle peeling agents that control bacteria and oil production as well as loosen impacted stratum corneum cells allows treatment products to penetrate more effectively. Using a daily care product with low level retinol in conjunction with anti-inflammatory exfoliating treatments allows for better skin function and improved cell turnover rates with minimal irritation.

Control sebum (oil) production: In acne-prone skin, increased sebum and P. acnes bacteria build up behind the plug and can trigger an inflammatory response. It is important to understand that over-drying the skin, even if it is oily, will cause the skin to compensate by producing an excessive amount of sebum. This will cause even more breakouts. Natural astringents that also moisturize will avoid this over-production of sebum.

Decrease P. acnes proliferation: Topical oxygen sources, such as benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen peroxide, effectively deliver oxygen to the follicle, killing the anaerobic bacteria. Increasing cell turnover and gentle exfoliation, ensures that P. acnes will not be trapped in a deoxygenated environment and allowed to proliferate.

Control inflammation: Inflammation is both a cause and result of acne. When the number of P. acnes increases sebum is broken down into irritating free fatty acids which stimulate an immune response. White blood cells weaken the follicular wall, resulting in rupture and increased inflammation. Utilizing anti-inflammatory topical ingredients will soothe current irritation and help to avoid future inflammation.

Some common and effective sebum controlling ingredients are: salicylic acid, ginger root, green burnet root, licorice root, cucumber extract and cinnamon bark. In addition there are several beneficial oils important in the treatment of acne as they contain very helpful naturally derived fatty acids. These include, but are not limited to borage seed oil, grape seed oil and essential wheat germ oil.

I attended the Olympia Beauty Show, my 2nd beauty trade show in London, this past weekend. Honestly, it could have passed for any Friday evening at a gay club. I've never seen so many trannylicious looking ladies in my life. This goes for any beauty show, as even the mother of all skincare shows, IECSC in Las Vegas, is just as, if not more, tacky, but does have a much better layout and amazing discounts.

Why is it that so many women in the beauty industry look so tacky? How can you promote makeup, when you don't even know how to apply it properly? Stripper lip and obviously fake eyelashes don't look good on anyone....ever!

I've noticed that one of the big sellers (for obvious reasons) at the beauty shows in London are the spray tans that you can get for free or almost free at the show. Women are practically beating each other to strip down to their underwear, in public, and have their bodies painted. They don't even provide paper bras and panties at the shows here...you just stand there in your own underwear...very strange. To be honest I would have probably gone for one myself if I wasn't behind in the waxing department. I am in a constant state of pale since moving here.

As always there were teeth whitening systems, waxing systems, various skincare lines and LOTS of Nail Technician supplies available at the Olympia Beauty Show. The discounts were few and far between and the aisles were not large enough for people to comfortably walk around the show, much less get in and out of the booths. There were hoards of rolling luggage toting ladies, giggling school girls and of course the over the top fashionistas (at least in their own minds).

I would have loved to see a booth offering make-unders, but at least everyone attending seemed to have sparkling teeth.
Would you like to turn back the hands of time for your skin? Are you looking for skin that is smooth, healthy, youthful, and luminous? Do you want to look flawless, even up close? You can expect all this and more with this Skincare System from NouVara, and our exclusive ingredient, MannosX.

As our signature ingredient, MannosX is supremely pure, natural, and healthy. This line of luxurious products will bring you beauty, as you exude confidence from the overall health of your skin.

NouVara, a company named for bringing a “New Era” to skincare, cosmetics and wellness, has been shaped to create lasting beauty by combining pharmaceutical technology and green chemistry. Through modern scientific advances, artisan formulation, and the most potent natural ingredients, NouVara has created a line of products that delivers long lasting, beautiful results without the use of harmful chemicals or ingredients.

The Review: I was contacted and then sent a sample kit from Christine at NouVara several weeks ago. My kit contained VitaWash Purifying Cleanser, Xfoliate Polishing Scrub, Platinum 02 PM Restructure Serum, Intense SIX AM Tightening Serum, MatrixPT Age Reversal Moisturizer and Crystal Eyes Renewing Eye Gel.

The stand-out product in this kit (for me at least) is the Crystal Eyes Renewing Eye Gel. I really loved this stuff and I did receive comments from 2 different people telling me that I looked “refreshed” and that my eyes looked “brighter”. If you read the ingredients you will understand why this works quite well as an eye cream. It contains several reflective ingredients, which minimize the appearance of lines, anti-inflammatory agents, which help with bags under the eyes and an ingredient to minimize dark circles.

All of the products contained no detectable or very little scent. If there was any scent at all it was a clean smell, which was pleasant. The consistency of the products reminded me of egg whites, especially the eye gel, (which by the way can be applied to the skin for a quick tightening mask) but not in a bad way. They did leave a slightly “tacky” feel behind, but this was not unpleasant in any way. I found that a little bit goes a looooong way with these products and that of course is always a bonus.

The face wash left my face feeling soft and moisturized, but not greasy at all and the moisturizer lasted a long time. I woke up in the morning with a face that still felt plump and moist. Also, the Xfoliate Polishing Scrub is very mild and did a nice job, without drying my skin. One thing to note is that my mineral makeup looked flawless when applied over the moisturizer.

The serums were a bit harder to review, because most of the SIX AM Tightening serum leaked out of the case and I find that generally speaking serums take a bit of use until you really notice any effect.

I definitely love the fact that the products do not contain parabens, sulfates, harsh preservatives and overall yucky stuff for your skin. I also like the fact that their web site does not contain cheesy tag lines such as “botox in a bottle” or “look 10 years younger”.

Overall I would say that eye gel was the most “scientifically” effective product and my favorite. The other products were nice and my skin did look moist and plump after using them.

The Claim: Over time, lack of sleep and daily fatigue make eyes look tired. Microcirculation slows and the delicate skin around the eyes becomes thinner and more translucent. Dark circles and shadows appear.
Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller is right for you if you want to instantly correct the appearance of dark circles and brighten the skin around your eyes

The Review: Save your money. You’re better off brewing a cup of tea, letting the used tea-bag cool, putting it over your eyes for 10 minutes and then using some under eye concealer. Yes, caffeine will tighten your skin slightly, but it’s not as though it’s actually penetrating the skin so caffeine in any form applied topically will do the same thing. The concealer in this product is very watery as well.

I have used this product for 30 days and found zero improvement with the dark circles and bags under my eyes.

They could have improved this product if they had added vitamin K, which is known for helping with dark circles and bruising.

One positive is that the metal ball does feel really nice rolling across the skin.
